Vikings’ Olympic Handball Fun Day

As the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was drawing to a close, Newcastle Vikings Handball Club hosted their Olympic Handball Fun Day on Saturday afternoon at Newcastle’s Great Park Community Centre.

Despite the unseasonably indifferent British weather, it proved to be a pretty successful day with lots of children and their families coming along to try handball and join in the various other sporty fun on offer.  Small-sided handball games for young children and adults were complemented by handball target shooting, tug-of-war and an Olympic-themed art competition, together with a prize-draw raffle, face-painting glitter tattoos, barbeque and other refreshments.

While the wet weather put pay to the planned showcase match between the Vikings’ men and women’s teams, it didn’t prevent those who came along from enjoying lots of fun in the sun and rain outdoors, as well as the indoor activities too.

Newcastle Vikings Handball Club would like to thank everyone who came along and joined in.  The Olympic Handball Fun Day capped a busy summer for the club’s volunteer members who have also been giving children and adults lots of opportunities to try handball at many other sports events in local parks across Tyne & Wear.

Anyone inspired to find out more about playing handball can contact the club via our website www.newcastlehandball.co.uk or the Newcastle Vikings Handball Club Facebook and Twitter social media pages.  The club always welcomes new players of all ages, whether beginners or experienced players.  Indoor training for the new season resumes in September with sessions for adults and juniors taking place in Killingworth and South Shields, as well as Mini Vikings sessions for younger children.
