Vikings Go Jorvik in the North East Handball League

The third round of the friendly North East handball league took place on Sunday at York St. John’s University as part of York Hunters Handball Club’s first handball festival.

The hosts opened on a winning note in defeating Newcastle Vikings men 6-5, with a combined Sunderland/Durham University men’s team then beating the University of York 8-3.

Next up was the first of two women’s matches between the Newcastle Vikings ladies (featuring a couple of Sunderland and York Hunters players) and the University of York.  The Vikings team dominated both games, first winning 10-1 and then 11-1 in the second match.  In between, Newcastle’s men defeated the University of York 8-6 and Sunderland/Durham won 7-4 against York Hunters.

The final matches of the day saw the Vikings run out 8-4 victors over Sunderland/Durham, before York Hunters rounded off a successful day of handball action 6-1 winners against their city’s university students.

With 3 points for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 in defeat, and the scores being aggregated across all four rounds of matches, there’s still all to play for in the last round of the North East league which is due to take place in Durham in April.
