Merry Christmas from the Chair

We’re almost halfway into the handball season 21/22, and it has been fantastic to be able to run all our training sessions in our venues and have match days, both home and away, with only limited restrictions and a few changes. I must say a special well done to our U14 team for participating in their first ever EHA league tournament and running out worthy winners. What a fantastic success!

Welcoming current players, previous players, and not least new players this autumn has given our handball club a real boost, which was much needed after last season’s interruptions. Meeting players from different backgrounds, ages, and different parts of the world, is a unique benefit to running a club like ours. I think we can all learn so much from each other and create ever stronger bonds within our handball family.
I have so many thankyous to say to people for being part of making handball bigger and better in Tyne & Wear. All the hard work our players put into their training sessions and their commitment, the coaches’ planning and running of sessions, the board for all the hard work behind the scenes and of course all the volunteers helping in sessions, on match days and during events. Thank you also to the parents for being ‘taxi drivers’ and supporting the club in any way you can.

Turning to next year, we will hopefully start an exciting new project with Sunderland Schools to boost handball at our Farringdon venue. I’m very excited about this and looking forward to growing our great sport in Sunderland. We will continue hosting match days at Benfield, play away matches for some of the older teams and hopefully host our own senior tournament on 23rd April. Social gatherings are also on the cards for all our players.

But for now, enjoy your Christmas break. I look forward to welcoming 2022 and seeing you all back on the handball court soon. Farringdon junior sessions starts again on 10th January and Benfield junior sessions on 12th January. Seniors are back on the 5th of January. On behalf of Newcastle Vikings HC, I wish you all a safe and peaceful festive period!
