Several of Newcastle Vikings Handball Club’s younger players have been successful in being selected for the England Handball Association’s academy programmes this season.
Towards the end of last season, having attended additional preparatory training sessions during May and June, eight of Newcastle Vikings’ youth players attended the trials for the EHA under-16 North Regional Academy on 24 June 2023 in Oldham. All of those attending – Edda Stenbom-Moss, Brendan Fisher, Charlie Pickett, George Archer, Joseph Meachery, Oliver Cass, Zac Barbieri and Zavi Racey – were successful in being selected for the Regional Academy programme, which is the second age-group stage of the England Handball performance pathway.
Meanwhile, having just finished their first season playing in the Vikings’ senior men’s team, winger Aaron Edmundson and goalkeeper Charlie Emmett were also successful in being selected for the EHA’s final stage under-19 National Academy Talent Pathway. This academy programme is designed to support the development of players demonstrating a commitment to club handball and who have the potential and desire to grow their skills to progress into youth national teams.
Many congratulations to all of the players involved, we wish you all the very best of luck in your handball development through these academy programmes over the coming season.
