After a turbulent year for all of us we have now come to the end of the handball season. I am so happy that throughout COVID we have managed to run some indoor and outdoor handball sessions for our players, as well as ZOOM sessions while in lockdown. I know it has been far from a normal handball season, but I do hope you all have enjoyed our sessions.
I would like to say to our fabulous coaching and volunteering team, a massive thank you for all your hard work and effort of creating fun and safe sessions for our players. Keep up the good work.
To parents and players, thank you for being understanding and accepting our changing rules as the season went on. I can’t cherish our young players enough. Their positive attitude and
team spirit has been fantastic this season.
I do hope from September when our new season starts, we can dive into the sessions with new energy and keep building strong friendships among our players while learning new skills. The Sunderland Junior sessions will be for players of the age 7-18, so we can continue to offer our older junior players an opportunity to play handball in Sunderland. We are hoping to build up two age groups there. We will start up on Monday 13th September at Farringdon.
At Benfield our mini and junior sessions will start up on Wednesday 15th September. The minis are from age 3-6, while the juniors are from age 7-15 split into different age groups. Our senior women’s and men’s sessions will be starting up again indoors at Benfield from 6th September. New players are always welcome at both venues.
For more information about the sessions and our upcoming events, please see separate information in the newsletter and on our social media channels.
Another exciting news is that from this coming season we can offer our U14/U16 players to play in the English Handball Youth League if there is enough uptake. More information to be shared about this league in the ZOOM parent meeting on 1st September.
Also, I would like to say well done to some of our youth players who have this season completed a ‘Young Leaders’ program through RISE. There will be more opportunities for development within the club this coming season and you can apply for a bursary scheme through RISE to continue your leadership journey. Check SPOND for more details.
On behalf of Newcastle Vikings HC, I wish you all a safe and happy summer!
