This Sunday 13 December sees the start of the inaugural North East handball tournament between Newcastle Vikings and the emerging Durham University and York Hunters handball clubs.
Newcastle Vikings Handball Club have set up this friendly three-round tournament as part of the club’s mission to help develop handball in the North East of England. Coming on the back of a number of friendly matches played against both Durham and York over the past couple of seasons, this tournament seeks to create a more formal mini-league arrangement and encourage wider participation and more competitive court time for beginners and younger non-league players of the region’s up-and-coming clubs.
The North East tournament takes place over three separate weekends, with the first round taking place in York and featuring both men’s and women’s matches. With the clubs playing each other and scoring points in each round, the overall regional winners will be crowned after the three tournaments.
