We are pleased to formally announce that Newcastle Vikings Handball Club has signed up its first club sponsors, Newcastle-based Greek kitchen and cocktail bar Kafeneon.
The sponsorship deal comes on the back of a season that saw the Vikings claim their first silverware when the club’s women’s team were crowned champions of the England Handball Association’s North Regional Development League 2017/18 back in April.
Kafeneon, located in Newcastle city centre’s popular Bigg Market, was established in 1998 and specialises in quality Greek and Mediterranean dishes. The restaurant is open daily throughout the afternoon and evenings and has become a favourite venue for the multi-national Vikings teams, including recently hosting the after-party celebrations following the club’s annual Tyneside Handball Tournament in June.
The sponsorship agreement will see Kafeneon continue to host Newcastle Vikings’ annual tournament after-party, as well as the club Christmas party, post-match socials and possible fundraising nights. In return, Kafeneon will provide match-funding through a rebate bonus out of the food and drink charges.
The club will also benefit whenever Newcastle Vikings players, family and friends visit the restaurant.
The deal will also see the restaurant gaining various forms of promotion, including through the naming of a Kafeneon Player of the Match in articles on the club website and local newspapers, features on the club’s website and social media pages, as well as their logo appearing on the club’s training and event advertising posters and flyers.
Kafeneon owner Daniel Stamatelopoulos said “We are very happy to be part of the community and find a way that we can support a local team. We’re looking forward to seeing the Vikings this coming season at Kafeneon, and making sure they are well fed!”.
Newcastle Vikings Handball Club’s sponsorship officer María José González welcomed the agreement, saying “We are really excited to welcome Kafeneon to the Vikings family! This collaboration will help the club to promote handball across the region while helping to get the Newcastle community active. We are also looking forward to Kafeneon being a base for our social events in a friendly atmosphere with great food and service quality. We will do our best to spread the word and enhance Kafeneon as a great place to visit in Newcastle.”
Club treasurer Mark Harrison (pictured above with Kafeneon owner Dan) added “We would encourage all Vikings players, family and friends to take the opportunity to visit Kafeneon whenever possible. The more effort we all put in and utilise the benefits of this sponsorship agreement, the greater the potential to generate money for the club.”
