While their female counterparts were in league action, the Newcastle Vikings men’s team travelled up to Scotland on Saturday to take part in the annual Edinburgh International Handball tournament .
A positive start saw the Vikings to a 7-4 opening win against Dundee. However, tough defeats to Dublin (6-8), Cumbernauld-based Tryst (6-10) and eventual competition winners Glasgow (4-7) in their other group fixtures saw them finish fourth in their group.
A battling 8-8 draw with East Kilbride’s EK82 in their final play-off match between the two fourth-placed teams nevertheless ensured Newcastle a joint seventh place finish overall.
